Simplify Delivery of High Quality Video and Rich Media Across Your Enterprise

Distributed Media Engine

The VBrick H.264 Distributed Media Engine (DME) simplifies delivery of high-definition video and other rich media content across multi-site enterprises and campus environments.  The Distributed Media Engine, deployed centrally or at the network edge, is a single integrated platform that provides media redistribution, media transformation as well as video-on-demand content serving and storage.  Optionally, the DME can deliver a Video Conference Streaming Gateway Module, enabling the DME to ingest video from popular videoconference systems and convert it for streaming.  Each unit can support hundreds or thousands of users, concurrently delivering multiple streams of live and stored video content in a variety of formats.

The DME ingests H.264 video streams, concurrently transforming and redistributing them out to diverse endpoints including PCs, MACs, mobile phones, tablets and televisions/ monitors.  VBrick’s commitment to standards assures that the DME can support: Flash, HLS (Apple Adaptive), Smooth Streaming as well as Transport Stream and HTTP Progressive Download.  The DME’s support for Transport Stream, including its ability to redistribute KLV metadata, makes it compelling for extending the reach of surveillance and monitoring content.

When Video Conference Streaming Gateway Module services are enabled the DME offers both the gateway functions and core DME services concurrently.  The DME can ingest video from the video conferencing camera & codec or MCU, convert it for stream and then transform it to make it available on hundreds or thousands of devices concurrently.  Users can watch the video conference stream from a standard web browser, no additional applications are required.  The module integrates using industry-standard SIP, assuring interoperability with most popular brands of video conferencing.

The Distributed Media Engine is offered on a choice of three robust hardware platforms, all leveraging VBrick’s experience building high-performance, low-touch appliances. VMware software images are also available for customers that wish to use their own hardware platforms.  Requiring only a web browser interface for management, the H.264 DME seamlessly integrates as a distributed element within the VBrick Enterprise IP Video Architecture (VEVA).  This includes working in concert with a central VEMS MystroTM to intelligently serve users both live and stored content from the closest DME.

Applications

Meeting and Event Broadcasting – Extend broadcasts beyond headquarters.  When used with VEMS Mystro™, users are automatically connected to the closest DME, reducing the burden on the network – delivering higher-quality live broadcasts to a variety of endpoints.  Once an event is recorded, VEMS Mystro automatically directs users to the closest DME for playback.

Training and Lecture Capture – Bring the classroom to a larger audience by distributing live or stored lectures and training to authorized viewers.  Reduce travel and eliminate traditional adoption barriers such as limited bandwidth or incompatible devices.

Television Distribution – Simplify IPTV distribution to remote buildings/locations.  Send one stream to serve hundreds or thousands of users across the district.  Enable central management of IPTV broadcasts while intelligently delivering video streams locally via unicast, multicast or both.

Enterprise “YouTube” – Improve user experiences.  Provide local content storage at the network edge allowing users to access that content locally without utilizing valuable WAN bandwidth.  Leverage more user-generated content without worrying about network impact.

Surveillance & Monitoring – Share sensitive video content more effectively without requiring specialized equipment or cabling.  The DME ingests and reflects Transport Stream including critical KLV metadata.

Unified Communications – Serve live, high definition (HD) video to Lync users, inside their Lync client (OCS is also supported).  Forget the 250 user limit associated with Lync Video Conferencing, the DME will serve streaming video to thousands of Lync users concurrently.

VBOSS – Skip the WAN and save the Net.  Leverage VBrick’s Online Streaming Service (VBOSS) to connect remote offices over the Internet.  The DME can be deployed in a remote site to act as a termination point for VBOSS streams. Video streams are reflected to all the users in the office so no matter how many employees are watching a live event, only one Internet stream is required.

Benefits

Mobile Device Support - Simplify access for all your employees regardless of where or how they watch.  Use one H.264 video stream to support the live and stored video standards required on iPads, iPhones, Android devices, Windows Phone, MACs, PCs, set-top boxes and more.

Bandwidth Conservation – Enables more end users to share a single media stream.  Redistribute high-quality, live or on-demand media via RTP or Transport Stream multicast.  Eliminate the need to incrementally scale network bandwidth to support more viewers.

Media Transformation –Stream high-quality H.264 content once and leverage the DME at distributed locations to deliver multiple formats including Flash, HLS (Apple Adaptive), Smooth Streaming as well as Transport Stream and HTTP Progressive Download;  deliver video to multiple types of endpoints concurrently.

Intelligent Central Management – Content is created once and then intelligently managed by VEMS Mystro regardless of the location.  Stored content is appropriately distributed to local DME so users have faster access to frequently viewed content without the need to contend with constrained WAN links.

Robust Appliance Design or VMware  – Requiring only a web browser for management, the DME eliminates the need to learn arcane management procedures or waste time maintaining commercial server patches, etc.
